Water
Distribution System Diagnosis and Unidirectional Flushing
Program Development, Training
To
help the City of Auburn, NY assess the condition of
key components of its water distribution system, InfraMetrix
inspected and diagnosed 600 fire hydrants and 400 valves,
and then provided a detailed report of operating and
mechanical conditions. The City plans to address the
report recommendations and, as a result, expects to
improve its ISO rating and reduce overall insurance
costs for the entire community.
Auburn
Fire Chief Michael Quill said, "The City now has
a concise and complete list of hydrant and valve defects
that will be used to schedule maintenance and repairs.
Best of all, our firefighters have current information
on each hydrant, which improves our ability to fight
fires. The information provided by InfraMetrix is a
must for every fire department."
In
follow-on work to improve the effectiveness of the City's
flushing activities and overall water quality, InfraMetrix
prepared a hydraulic model for the entire distribution
system and developed and implemented a computerized
unidirectional flushing program. Field work was performed
jointly by InfraMetrix and City technicians. The final
report included flushing sequences and City staff training.
